As I near the 30 year marker, my own mortality (in the flesh) begins to clarify with the help of God’s Word.  Having studied many subjects on my own, with small groups and even educated and gifted pastors, I’d like to share some insight on the flesh with you now.

To begin, God made several things about the flesh body very clear:

  • It won’t last more than 120 years. (Gen 6:3)
  • It’s not being used again. (1Cor 15:53)
  • It was made in the likeness of the spirit body. (Gen 1:26)
  • It’s a temple of the Spirit. (1Cor 6:19)

With these keys in mind, let’s add some perspective.  When God set the length of flesh man’s life to 120 year, He had already mentioned how it repented Him that He made man flesh, which is to say, put our souls into flesh bodies.  He was contending with the wickedness of man’s imagination continually, as it is to this day.

Having placed an incredible ammount of toxins ino the environment, we’ve lessened that 120 year marker by 30-40%.  If we don’t pick up habbits like smoking, drinking, fast food, laziness, etc.. we may come close, but from this vantage point, it’s highly unlikely for the vast majority of the living, human race.

This flesh is a peculiar thing though, to be called a temple.  It’s far from deserving of the title.  It’s what is inside of the flesh that gives it the honor of being a temple, namely your spirit – for each flesh body was made like unto it’s spiritual counterpart (think of all the depictions of angelic beings with spiritual bodies, or even Christ after the ressurection).  The spirit being the thing inside which transcends every possible understanding of the flesh vessel which holds it dear for its duration.  Considering we do not use this flesh body once the connection is broken and it ceases to give new blood, it’s safe to conclude that one ought to be focused on the thing within.

I hope you find some clarity on the flesh here and if you have questions, please post a comment :)

In His service,

Joshua
